Cost for a Cure: Bipolar, $11.3 million per year
In Australia scientists are uniting to find a cure for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. This effort is the first of it's kind, globally.

I realize the cure is yet to be found. What boggles my mind is the $11.3 million per year. We are in a world where "Millionaires" are not necessarily even the affluent anymore. Why did this take so long? The same reason we have trouble funding all medical research I suppose.
Interestingly, in the U.S., if you follow the business and or medical news articles you know that this past year has brought more attention to mental illness awareness and bipolar disorder. The early part of the year began with the unacceptable grade NAMI gave the U.S. for our state of mental health services; a "D". Later in the year there was focus on mental health in the business and economy sections. This was in regard to corporate fiscal loss due to days off, disability, etc. from employees who have bipolar disorder. There was even mention of mental health training and services implemented within corporations as a means of loss-prevention. Mercurial Mind 6/10/2006: Bipolar Disorder Effects Work
I am not so sure we have our ducks in a row over here yet. I think NAMI is working on it the best they can. Those states that earned "A"'s, the few, they are too.
At least someone is working on a cure.
It was always a bit frustrating to just hear, "nope, this is it."
